A visit to this farm proved to widen the horizons of the individuals.
Upon our arrival, a farmworker introduced himself to us and took us on a tour of the farm, pointing out the variety of vegetables and plants they grow there.
The basics of farming were then taught, which included the clearing of weeds, the hoeing of hard soil, smoothing the surface of plots, the fertilization of seedlings, and the harvesting of crops. These activities proved to be physically wearing, and all the individuals were exhausted by the end of the day.
Farming knowledge was also passed down to us. For example, the composition of the fertilizers of this farm were scraps of peanut from the production of peanut oil and cow bones boiled down to a powder. They gave the plants nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), which are the three elements required for plant growth.
After this farming experience, the individuals realized that farming was not all fun and games; in reality, persistence and toil had to be demonstrated to cultivate a plant-filled field. They all learned how to work collaboratively with one another as, without the assistance of each other, it was not possible to finish all the tasks at hand alone or effectively.
All in all, we believe that this first successful introductory session of our farming session will arose the curiosity of young adults globally.
